Miraj Sitar to Kutch Bandhani: GI tags cross 600 in FY24

The overall number of GI registered in India surpassed 600 in 2023-24, with the Intellectual Property Office issuing up to 63 GI registrations on March 30, 2024. Of the 1,158 applications made over the last 20 years, 635 are now GI registered. The IP office granted 160 GIs tags in FY24, a three-fold jump in registration as compared to FY23.
