The govt on Thursday banned the import of air conditioners in its latest bid to boost domestic production by checking the entry of “non-essential” goods into the country. A notification issued by the directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) moved split and “other” ACs with refrigerants from the “free” list into the “prohibited” category which now also includes tyres etc.
