One Man Cycled From India To Europe To Meet His Wife. Read His Story
Charlotte Von Schedvin met Indian artist PK Mahanandia in Delhi in 1975. Ms Schedvin travelled all the way from Sweden to India after she heard about Mr Mahanandia's art and decided to get her portrait made by him.
Dr Pradyumna Kumar Mahanandia had just started making a name for himself as an artist. He was a poor art student at the College of Art in Delhi.
As luck would have it, both of them fell in love with each other while Mr Mahanandia was making her portrait. He fell in love with her beauty and she fell in love with his simplicity.
By the time Ms Von Schedvin had to leave, the duo decided to get married. In an old interview with BBC, Mr Mahanandia said, "She wore a sari when she met my father for the first time. I still don't know how she managed. With blessings from my father and family, we got married according to tribal tradition."
As the time for her departure neared, she asked her husband to accompany her. However, Ms Mahanandia had to finish his studies first. She made him promise that he would follow her to her home in the Swedish textile town of Boras.
The two kept in touch through letters.
After one year, when he planned to visit Ms Von Schedvin, he realised he did not have enough money to buy an air ticket. He sold everything he owned and bought a bicycle.
During the course of the next four months, he crossed Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. His cycle broke down many times on the way and he even had to go on without food for days. But nothing could break his will.
He started his journey on January 22, 1977, and he would cycle for around 70 km every day.
"Art came to my rescue. I made portraits of people and some gave me money, while others gave me food and shelter," he told BBC.
He reached Europe on May 28- via Istanbul and Vienna, and then travelled to Gothenburg by train.
The two officially got married in Sweden.
"I had no idea about European culture. It was all new to me, but she supported me at every step. She is just a special person. I am still in love just as I was in 1975," he told BBC.
The couple now lives in Sweden with their two children and he continues to work as an artist.

Gill's Comment To Kohli's Emotional Post After RCB's Exit Is Pure Gold
Royal Challengers Bangalore stalwart Virat Kohli penned a heartfelt post after the end of the team's IPL 2023 campaign and the comment on it from Shubman Gill was gold. After losing to Gujarat Titans in a must-win game on Sunday, RCB got eliminated from the playoff race of IPL 2023. A win would have taken RCB to the playoffs, but a loss to them helped Mumbai Indians join Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants in the top-4 in points table at the end of league stage.
"A season which had it's moments but unfortunately we fell short of the goal. Disappointed but we must hold our heads high. To our loyal supporters, grateful for backing us every step of the way. A big thank you to the coaches, management and my teammates. We aim to be back stronger," wrote Kohli on Instagram
On this, Gill commented with a crown emoji, certainly describing Kohli as a king.
See it here:
Gill reaffirmed his status as Kohli's heir apparent with a magnificent hundred as GT knocked RCB out of IPL with a six-wicket win, allowing Rohit Sharma's MI to sneak through as the fourth team in the play-offs in Bengaluru on Sunday.
After Kohli scored a 61-ball 101 in RCB's 197 for five, it looked like the best effort on the day but Gill, who will be the torchbearer of Indian batting for the next 10 years, showed that he is better than the best. What Kohli did well, Gill did that better as his unbeaten 104 off 52 balls saw Titans chase down the target with elan. Like former India captain Kohli, this was Gill's second successive hundred.

"Have 8-9 Months To Decide": Dhoni On Whether He'll Retire After IPL 2023
MS Dhoni has finally answered all speculations on whether IPL 2023 will be the ned of his playing career. After guiding his beloved Chennai Super Kings to a record 10th IPL final with a win over defending champions Gujarat Titans in Chennai on Tursday, Dhoni was asked a clear-cut question by renowned commenetator Harsha Bhogle. "Will you come and play here in Chepauk again?" Dhoni was asked. To which, Dhoni did not give a straight reaply but made it absolutely clear that he won't decide on his career right after the IPL ends.
"I don't know. I have eight or nine months to decide. The small auction will be around December so why to take that headche right now. I have ample time to decide. I will always be there for CSK, whether it is in the playing form or sitting somewhere outiside," MS Dhoni said in the post match-presentation ceremony.
"Frankly it takes a heavy toll. I have been out of form for literally four months now. Jan 31st was the time when I finished my work and started practising from 2nd-3rd of March. It takes a lot but I have ample time to decide."
Chennai Super Kings tamed a tenacious Gujarat Giants by 15 runs on a sticky surface to enter their 10th IPL final on Tuesday and extend their remarkable consistency in the tournament. CSK did well to reach 172 for 7 on a slow pitch in Qualifier 1 after Hardik Pandya opted to bowl. Considering the conditions, it turned out to be much more than a competitive total as Gujarat Titans had a rare off day to end with 157 all out in 20 overs. Rashid Khan made the CSK fans nervous with a 16-ball 30 towards the end but it was not enough for the Titans.
However, the defending champions will got another shot to make a second successive final in Qualifier 2 on Friday.
CSK's master tactician M S Dhoni made the best use of home advantage to take the four time champions to a 10th final in 14 editions. CSK did not take part in 2016 and 2017 editions.

Buffaloes Take A Morning Dip In UK Pool, Cost Couple Rs 25 Lakh
A video is going viral on social media which shows a herd of escaped buffaloes wrecking a couple's new swimming pool- by taking a dip. The 18 buffaloes escaped from a nearby farm and took a morning dip into the Essex swimming pool, reported BBC.
The CCTV footage captured the moment the animals fell through the pool cover and caused damage of 25,000 pounds (Rs 25,00, 000).
Andy and Lynette Smith, who are retired told Guardian that eight of the buffaloes ended up falling into the 70,000 pounds pool and triggered a stampede that ruined the fencing and flower beds. The animals were rescued later and were unharmed.
It's hot but it's not that hot! Moment herd of escaped water #buffalo stampede through couple's garden and take dip in their swimming pool - causing £25,000 in damage to their Colchester #Essex home pic.twitter.com/uYM8kZpwgP
— Hans Solo (@thandojo) May 23, 2023
The incident happened last year in July when electric fencing failed, allowing the herd to breach a wooden fence and hedge separating their field from the Smiths' garden.
"When my wife went to make the morning tea, she glanced out of the kitchen window and saw eight buffaloes in the pool," Andy Smith told Guardian. "She called 999 and was told the fire brigade doesn't accept hoax calls. It took some persuading to get them to take us seriously. When they arrived, one of the buffaloes, spooked by their hi-vis jackets, headed straight at them."
A spokesperson from NFU Mutual Insurance said that the claim had been "settled and paid".
They said, "We apologise for the delay in paying this claim and in particular the initial wait for an inspector's visit, which took too long and fell short of our usual standards."

NDTV Public Opinion: Over 55% Satisfied With Centre's Work On Various Fronts
More than half the people are satisfied with Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's work on various fronts, a unique NDTV survey called 'Public Opinion' that examines nine years of PM Modi showed. Despite the Karnataka loss, the PM's popularity remains strong, and BJP's vote share remains stable. Over 55 per cent of the respondents -- among over 7,000 people across 19 states and 71 Lok Sabha constituencies -- said they were either fully or partially satisfied with the government's work in the last nine years.
17 per cent of respondents said they were fully satisfied, and 38 per cent voted partially satisfied. 19 per cent said they were slightly disappointed, and 21 per cent said they were totally disappointed with the PM Modi-led work. Five per cent said they didn't know.
Rahul Gandhi's popularity has risen after his pan-India foot march Bharat Jodo Yatra, the poll, in partnership with Lokniti-Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), has found, but he remains far behind PM Modi.
People remain divided over the central probe agency Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation's role. 37 per cent said agencies are working as per law. Several opposition parties across the country have repeatedly alleged that the Centre has weaponised these agencies to settle political scores. 32 per cent of respondents agreed with the charge that the agencies are being used for political vendetta. 31 per cent said they had no opinion on it.
The survey, which included people from all social classes, was conducted between May 10 and May 19.
43 per cent of poll participants, when asked who they'd prefer as the Prime Minister if elections were to be held today, chose PM Modi, while 27 per cent voted for Rahul Gandhi. When asked to choose parties they'd vote for today, 39 per cent chose BJP, Congress got 29 per cent votes, and others 28 per cent.
Other top leaders trailed far behind. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal both got four per cent votes, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was the choice of three per cent of the respondents, and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar got just one per cent votes.
Interestingly, PM Modi doesn't seem to face anti-incumbency even after two consecutive terms at the Centre. In 2019, he was the preferred choice for the PM for 44 per cent of respondents and has seen a drop of just one per cent in 2023. Rahul Gandhi has seen a three per cent jump as favourite for the top job in the same period -- from 24 per cent in 2019 to 27 per cent in 2023.
To a more pointed question about their views on the PM, 40 per cent of respondents said they like him, 23 per cent said they dislike him, 25 per cent remained ambivalent, and 12 per cent did not respond. A majority (25 per cent) of those who said they like the PM said they like him for his oratory, a fifth (20 per cent) said because of development work (vikaspurush), 13 per cent said because he works hard, and an equal percentage like him for his charisma, 11 per cent are impressed by his policies, and 15 per cent cited other reasons. Three per cent did not respond.
On who they see as a challenger to PM Modi in next year's general elections, Rahul Gandhi was the clear favourite, with 34 per cent voting for him, followed by Arvind Kejriwal, who 11 per cent of respondents backed. Akhilesh Yadav got five per cent votes, Mamata Banerjee four per cent, and a quarter (25 per cent) chose other Opposition leaders.
When questioned about how they feel about Rahul Gandhi, 26 per cent said they have always liked the Congress leader. 15 per cent said they started liking him after the Bharat Jodo Yatra. 16 per cent said they dislike him, and 27 per cent were ambivalent (neither like nor dislike). 16 per cent did not respond.
Almost half (47 per cent) of the respondents said they like the PM Modi-led government's work on development, and 40 per cent said they didn't. Eight per cent said it was average, and five per cent said they didn't know.
On Kashmir, a majority of respondents (30 per cent) said they didn't like the Centre's work, while 28 per cent said they did. 13 per cent thought it was average, and 29 per cent didn't know.
A majority (45 per cent) also didn't like the government's efforts in stopping corruption. 41 per cent said they liked it, while eight per cent said it was average. Six per cent said they didn't know.
However, when asked which big issue was top of their list when voting, just five per cent said it was corruption.
To a direct question on whether they want the PM Modi-led government to return to power again, 43 per cent said they did, while 38 per cent said they didn't. 18 per cent did not respond.
The BJP, which got a 37 per cent vote share in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, can expect a two per cent bump, the survey showed. Congress, which got 19 per cent, will go up to 29 per cent.

Setback For Indian Students In UK Over Right To Bring Dependents
The UK government on Tuesday announced a new immigration crackdown targeted at overseas students, including Indians, and their visa right to bring dependent family members to the country while enrolled at a British institution.
In a written statement to the House of Commons, UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman said that only international students on postgraduate courses currently designated as research programmes will be allowed to bring in their family members, including children and elderly parents, as their dependents.
The Indian-origin minister said the new package of measures was necessary after it emerged that around 136,000 visas were granted to dependents of sponsored students in the year ending December 2022 - a more than eight-fold increase from 16,000 in 2019.
"This package includes removing the right for international students to bring dependants unless they are on postgraduate courses currently designated as research programmes," Braverman's statement notes.
Removing the ability for international students to switch out of the student route into work routes before their studies have been completed and reviewing the maintenance requirements for students and dependants are listed among the other new measures.
The minister also pledged steps to clamp down on unscrupulous education agents "who may be supporting inappropriate applications to sell immigration not education".
Improved and more targeted enforcement activity is also listed within the new package.
"The terms of the graduate route remain unchanged... We are committed to attracting the brightest and the best to the UK. Therefore, our intention is to work with universities over the course of the next year to design an alternative approach that ensures that the best and the brightest students can bring dependants to our world-leading universities while continuing to reduce net migration," she said.
The new curbs are expected to be enforced "as soon as possible", after consultation with the educational sector and key stakeholders.
The crackdown was widely expected as reports indicated that the UK's latest net migration figures to be released later this week will show a massive rise from 504,000 between June 2021 and 2022 despite a Conservative Party-led government pledge to bring down immigration in the wake of Brexit.
"While the vast majority of students will be unaffected by proposals that limit the ability to be accompanied by dependants, more information is needed on the programmes that are in scope before a proper assessment of the impact can be made," said Jamie Arrowsmith, Director of Universities UK International (UUKi) - the representative body for 140 UK universities.
"Yet we do know that any changes are likely to have a disproportionate impact on women and students from certain countries. We, therefore, urge the government to work with the sector to limit and monitor the impact on particular groups of students - and on universities, which are already under serious financial pressures," he said.
The UUKi welcomed confirmation that the new Graduate route visa, which allows students to stay on and seek work experience for up to three years at the end of their degree, will remain "open and competitive".
Indians, who recently overtook Chinese as the leading nationality granted study visas to the UK, are the highest cohort to access this visa launched in July 2021.
As per official data for 2020-21, there were 87,045 Indian first-year enrolments behind China's 99,965 and ahead of Nigeria's 32,945.
In terms of the number of dependants accompanying these students, Nigerians rank the highest followed by Indians.

Zomato Says Customers Paid In Cash After RBI's Decision On Rs 2,000 Notes
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes from circulation on May 19, 2023. The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) 19 regional offices and other banks will start taking Rs 2,000 notes for exchange with lower denomination ones from May 23. They will remain legal tender, the RBI said.
On Monday, food delivery firm Zomato revealed that 72 per cent of the 'cash on delivery orders' were paid in Rs 2,000 notes after the RBI announcement. The food delivery company used the perfect meme, a Breaking Bad reference to share the news.
"Since Friday, 72% of our cash on delivery orders were paid in Rs 2000 notes," Zomato wrote along with a picture of Breaking Bad character Huell Babineaux - laying atop a mountain of cash. Zomato tweaked the photo and made the character wear a Zomato t-shirt and replaced the currency.
Check out the post:

— zomato (@zomato) May 22, 2023
Since being posted, the picture has amassed 15,000 likes and over 1,000 retweets.
Commenting on the post, a user wrote, "You should come out with a TV series - Breaking Bread."
Another user wrote, "You should be happy right?? Your per-order value increased to at least around 2000 rupees."
The third user wrote, "You can tie up with SBI then. You deliver them lunch, they will exchange your 2000 Rs notes."
"Yesterday saw a boy ate chhole kulche of Rs. 50 and gave 2000 notes to the vendor and refused to pay in any other mode. The vendor had to accept. Crossed road, ordered 40 rs juice and gave 2000 rs note. This seems to be the safest and most economical way to get rid of 2000 rs note," the fourth wrote.
The RBI has told all banks to stop issuing Rs 2,000 notes immediately.
The RBI started printing the Rs 2,000 note in November 2016 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi scrapped high-value Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes overnight.
"The objective of introducing Rs 2,000 banknotes was met once banknotes in other denominations became available in adequate quantities. Therefore, the printing of Rs 2000 banknotes was stopped in 2018- 19," the RBI said in a statement.

Opinion: A Big Shift In How We Define Infrastructure
As society evolves, the interpretation and understanding of key concepts that shape societal discourse also change. This evolution is driven by the shift in moral values, ethical frameworks, technological advancements, and the emergence of new branches of knowledge, which can significantly alter the meanings of previously established ideas.
For example, Thomas More's "Utopia", published in 1516, presents an idealised vision of a society where shared resources and communal living are the foundation of social harmony. This groundbreaking work was designed as a critique of the European socio-political structures of the time. Yet, as we traverse the temporal gradient, our perception of "Utopia" has experienced a profound metamorphosis. In the context of today's society, More's "Utopia" transcends its original intent, evolving into a symbol of our mutating societal values and ethics. This transformation demonstrates how our understanding of pivotal concepts evolves over time, showing that societal understanding can adapt to relentless change.
The evolution of the definition of infrastructure is no exception.
The way the world defines infrastructure has also gone through a sea change, which stands as a powerful testament to this phenomenon. The global understanding of what constitutes infrastructure has indeed undergone a seismic shift.
Infrastructure is traditionally conceptualised as the basic physical and institutional structures, amenities, and networks required for the functioning of a community or commercial entity. This includes vital, extensive, and capital-heavy tangible assets like highways, bridges, tunnels, rail systems, airports, seaports, electricity generation and transmission infrastructures, water supply and waste management systems, and telecommunication networks. Because of their significant impact on economic activities and the facilitation of societal linkages, these assets are frequently considered public goods and are commonly provided by government entities.
This conventional definition predominantly concentrates on the quantifiable, 'hard' assets indispensable for socio-economic operations, often neglecting the 'soft' facets such as social services, digital integration, or aspects related to environmental sustainability.
This perspective is also corroborated by the type of data historically collected and maintained by institutions like the World Bank. Specifically, the World Bank's "World Stocks Infrastructure (1950-95)" database, prepared by David Canning, offers a telling example. This database catalogued only six measures of infrastructure stocks across 152 countries: (1) number of telephones, (2) number of telephone lines, (3) kilowatts of electricity-generation capacity, (4) kilometres of roads, (5) kilometres of paved roads, and (6) kilometres of railway lines. Evidently, the overarching definition of infrastructure during this period primarily concentrated on physical infrastructure, substantiating the traditional viewpoint.
Similarly, the World Development Report (1994), Infrastructure for Development, defined economic infrastructure as public utilities (power, telecommunications, piped water supply, etc.), public works (roads, dams, canals), and other transport sectors.
The limited scope of the term "infrastructure" persisted even into the early 2000s, where it remained largely synonymous with physical entities such as roads, railroads, telecommunications, electricity, water and sanitation systems, ports, airports, and canals. This restricted understanding is clear in a 2003 World Bank policy working paper titled 'Investing in Infrastructure: What is needed from 2000 to 2010.' Even this document, tasked with outlining the upcoming decade's infrastructure needs, was primarily focused on these traditional types of infrastructure, reinforcing the prevailing mindset of the era.
On a side note, the government's role in providing traditional infrastructure has been and continues to be both significant and broadly acknowledged. The extent of government involvement fluctuates according to the specific circumstances, community dynamics, and the nature of the infrastructure resource at hand. This pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the infrastructural backbone of our societies is a testament to the public sector's crucial role. Previously, the onus of infrastructure development fell squarely on the government's shoulders. However, the private sector is now emerging as a pivotal contributor to the infrastructure sector.
Infrastructure development, despite being integral to a nation's socioeconomic progression, is not always viewed as the exclusive obligation of the government. There are several compelling reasons.
First, the scale of infrastructure required to meet the growing demands of population growth, urbanisation, and economic expansion frequently exceeds the financial abilities of numerous administrations. In this situation, it is often necessary for the private sector to be involved, and this is achieved through public-private partnerships.
Additionally, the concept of developmental investing, which involves private investors participating in infrastructure development for both profits and societal benefits, is on the rise. Last, historical data suggests that a hands-off governmental approach, which allocates infrastructure decisions entirely to the private sector, does not spur sustained economic growth. This highlights the need for a harmonious equilibrium between public and private investments.
We must turn our attention once again to the changing definition of infrastructure through the years. This evolution, over time, has been both substantial and profound, diversifying its scope and refining its nuances. As our society progresses, the concept of infrastructure has broadened to include a greater variety of elements. In recent times, there has been a shift from providing a specific asset to addressing broader societal needs. Infrastructure today encompasses a network of collaborative and flexible partnerships amongst investors, operators, and owners, departing from the traditional centralized approach.
In the investment landscape, sector-specific funds have emerged over the past few years, concentrating on areas such as water, digital technologies, mid-market ventures, core-plus, and value-added services. This development has led to a more precise delineation of what investing in infrastructure entails, thereby fostering increased specialization in the field.
Additionally, the interpretation of infrastructure has displayed a capacity to adapt to changing economic contexts. During periods of inflation, escalating interest rates, and geopolitical turmoil, investors are compelled to reassess their traditional approaches and definitions of infrastructure within their investment portfolios. The evolution of infrastructure mirrors the complex and dynamic nature of the societal, economic, and political contexts in which it is integrated.
The definition of infrastructure now also includes social infrastructure: Social infrastructure is a growing field of study within urban geography and urban studies, offering a wide range of public and community services and institutions that promote societal interactions and contribute to the functioning of society.
This change in the understanding of infrastructure has been precipitated by an increased appreciation for the role of social institutions and services in fostering a thriving and robust society. These elements, while operating outside the traditional production and distribution systems, significantly influence societal quality of life. Examples include hospitals, schools, parks, and community organizations, all of which form integral components of social infrastructure.
The significance of social infrastructure transcends mere economics. It's pivotal in nurturing civic life, fostering community participation, and fortifying social unity. In addition, the escalating need for improved social infrastructure investment stems from the vast population lacking basic amenities like sanitation, potable water, and electricity.
Moreover, the heightened attention given to social equity, environmental justice, and universal service accessibility has underscored the role of social infrastructure in determining societal outcomes. This evolution in understanding and defining infrastructure demonstrates a more holistic view, acknowledging the capacity of physical and social structures to support and sustain communities.
In the contemporary context, elements such as Digital Public Goods (DPGs) are emerging as essential components of digital public infrastructure. They offer open-source tools and resources that are instrumental in implementing diverse systems and services within nations. This growing prominence of DPGs as a vital part of public infrastructure is a development that was scarcely conceivable even a couple of years ago, thereby illustrating the dynamic evolution of infrastructure in the digital age.
In conclusion, the definition of infrastructure has evolved significantly, reflecting the changing socioeconomic, environmental, and technological landscape. The traditional conceptualization of infrastructure as tangible, physical assets has gradually expanded to include intangible aspects like social services, digital integration, and environmental sustainability. This shift signifies a broader and more nuanced understanding of infrastructure, acknowledging its comprehensive role in fostering economic development, societal cohesion, and digital advancement. As our world continues to innovate and evolve, it is imperative that our definition of infrastructure remains fluid, adaptable and responsive to the multifaceted needs of our increasingly interconnected societies.

Zeenat Aman Reveals Why She And Big B "Made A Good On-Screen Jodi"
Veteran actress Zeenat Aman, who likes to keep it real on Instagram, is often found sharing anecdotal tales from her days in cinema, personal relations and all things good. On Monday, the actress did nothing different. Posting a still of Amitabh Bachchan and herself from their 1980s film Laawaris, the actress shed some light on the "long working relationship" she harboured with the superstar. Celebrating 42 years of her film Laawaris, Zeenat Aman recalled shooting for a song from the film, kab ke bichhde hue hum aaj with her co-star Amitabh Bachchan, with whom she shared a similar "work ethic."
Zeenat Aman in an eloquent post wrote, "Laawaris was released 42 years ago on this day on 22nd May 1981.An old school Masala blockbuster, it's the story of a man born from an illicit relationship, and includes themes of love, betrayal, murder and reconciliation. This still is from the song “kab ke bichhde hue hum aaj”. I had been visiting a friend in London, and flew directly to Kashmir to make it in time for this shoot. Director Prakash Mehra had been keeping unwell, but his excellent team of assistants stepped up to the plate. We shot the song over two-three days in some of the most stunning locations I have ever been to. Jumpsuits were all the rage back then, and this purple set was just fabulous! ( and the reason I chose this picture.)"
Talking about the equation she shared with Amitabh Bachchan, the actress continued, "Amit ji and I have had such a long working relationship, and I think part of the reason that we made a good onscreen jodi is our shared work ethic. We were both punctilious and punctual, which anyone in the industry will agree is not quite as common amongst actors as they'd like! I only ever recall him being late to set once in all those years, and boy is that a story to tell."
Undoubtedly, the post caught the attention of many celebs, who hailed the veteran actress for treating her followers with such wholesome posts. Actress Chitrangada wrote, "It's just so rare to find someone so gracious so articulate so stunning .. n so inspiring ! So much love."
For the unversed, Zeenat Aman and Amitabh Bachchan have starred together in some iconic films like Don, Gol Mall, Dostana, The Great Gambler and Pukar, to name a few.
Take a look at the post here:
Earlier, in another beautifully written note, the veteran actor bared her soul to the world and talked about the tumultuous relationship she shared with actor and "Starmaker" Dev Anand. She began the post by referring to the "golden trio" of Dev saab, Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor, who she said were the brains behind shaping Hindi cinema.
"When I embarked on my cinematic career, It was the age of the Golden Trio. The genius of Dev saab, Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor was widely acknowledged, and any actor worth their salt recognized that these three giants had shaped and were shaping Hindi cinema. Dev saab had already launched my career, and I was now keen to broaden my portfolio. Over the next few years, I starred in a string of movies, both with and without him," the 71-year-old actor noted.
Expressing her wish to be cast under the RK Banner, Zeenat Aman continued, "Meanwhile Raj ji's 1973 release Bobby had been a blockbuster hit that had swept every award. We knew each other socially too, exchanging warm greetings at public events. He was also my costar in Vakil Babu and Gopichand Jasoos. Naturally, I wanted to be directed by him under the RK banner, and when the opportunity arose, I jumped at it. The story of how I landed SSS is well-known, so I won't repeat it. I was giddy to have been cast for Raj ji's unconventional project and put heart and soul into it. I was completely unaware that Dev saab was simultaneously misreading the situation."
Talking about the "great misunderstanding" between Dev Anand and herself, the Satyam Shivam Sundaram star revealed details about the episode that left her feeling, "humiliated, hurt and disconcerted".
She wrote, Years later, in 2007, ‘Romancing with Life', Dev Saab's autobiography hit the stands. In it, he professed that he was in love with me, and insinuated that Raj ji and I had more than a director-actor equation which broke his heart. To be honest, I was livid. I felt humiliated, hurt and disconcerted that Dev saab, my much older mentor, a person I loved and admired platonically, would not only believe such a story devoid of a shred of truth but would then go on to publish it for the world to read. For weeks my phone rang incessantly as friends inquired about “what happened” and shared excerpts from the book. I never did read it though, and in my anger, I consigned the copy I was sent to storage in the basement!"
Concluding the post, Zeenat Aman wrote, "So here it is - the great misunderstanding. This episode embarrassed me deeply. For years I felt unable to talk about it to set the record straight. But now, time has granted me perspective and peace. Human folly is an eternal truth, and we all fall victim at one point or another. I will always remember Dev saab for his rare talent and warm guidance. He has my earnest gratitude and I do not tolerate disrespect to his name."

Opposition Versus BJP On New Parliament Opening: 10 Points
- The date of inauguration has also irked the Congress. May 28 is the birth anniversary of VD Savarkar, one of the BJP's biggest icons and the Congress said the selection of the date is a "complete insult" to the country's founding fathers.
- "Congress has a habit of raking controversies where none exist. While President is the Head of State, PM is the Head of Govt & leads the Parliament on behalf of the Govt, whose Policies are effected in form of Laws. The President is not a Member of either House, whereas PM is," tweeted Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
- BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia called the Congress "useless" and said "Veer Savarkar is the pride of every Indian. Those who are questioning the date, tell them that they are inconsequential, not even worth the dust on Veer Savarkar's feet".
- Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the government of "repeatedly disrespecting propriety" by not inviting the President and former President to the inauguration.
- "While Former President, Shri Kovind was not invited for the New Parliament foundation laying ceremony… The President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu is not being invited for the inauguration of the new Parliament Building," Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted.
- "She (the President) alone represents government, opposition, and every citizen alike. She is the First Citizen of India. Inauguration of the new Parliament building by her will symbolise Government's commitment to Democratic values and Constitutional propriety," read another of his tweets.
- Other opposition parties have also slammed the government over the inauguration. "Obsession with self-image and cameras trumps decency and norms when it comes to Modi Ji," said CPI's D Raja.
- "He (PM Modi) is head of the executive, not legislature. We have separation of powers and Hon'ble Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chair could have inaugurated (it). It's made with public money, why is PM behaving like his 'friends' have sponsored it from their private funds," tweeted AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
- The Opposition plans to calibrate their stance regarding the opening at a mega meeting they are planning.
- The new Parliament building can comfortably seat 888 members in the Lok Sabha chamber and 300 in the Rajya Sabha chamber. In the case of a joint sitting of both Houses, 1,280 members can be accommodated in the Lok Sabha chamber.

Watch: MI Squad Erupt In Celebration, Following RCB's Loss Against GT
Mumbai Indians had a day to remember on Sunday as they registered a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last league stage match. However, the main reason of happiness came after Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second match on Sunday, which paved way for the five-time champions into the Playoffs of IPL 2023. MI, who have now qualified with a total of 16 points, were dependent on GT's win over RCB. The team erupted in joy to celebrate their entry into the knockout stage of the tournament.
Taking to Instagram, MI posted a video where the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, Ishan Kishan and others were seen jumping and celebrating after Gujarat registered a six-wicket victory over RCB. The loss of RCB gave MI the fourth place on the points table.
Cameron Green's magnificent maiden century (100*) and Rohit Sharma's half century powered Mumbai Indians to a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last league match of the IPL at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Green smacked eight fours and eight sixes during his unbeaten 100 which came off just 47 balls. He added 53 runs with Suryakumar Yadav (25 not out) for the unbroken third wicket to take MI over the line.
Earlier, unheralded Uttarakhand pacer Akash Madhwal nailed his yorkers consistently at the death as MI restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to 200 for 5.
MI will now be going up against Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator match of IPL 2023 on Wednesday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Virat Kohli Surpasses Chris Gayle, Becomes Player With Most IPL Centuries
Virat Kohli was the lone ranger as his second successive century powered Royal Challengers Bangalore to a challenging 197 for five in their must-win final IPL league game against Gujarat Titans here on Sunday. With the rain gods threatening to spoil RCB's play-off plans during the day, the match that started half an hour late saw Kohli (101 not out off 61 balls) bring back his 2016 avatar. He held all the aces during his knock that had 13 fours and a six. His innings was priceless in the context that none of the other RCB batters could even reach 30 and just like the good old days, 'King Kohli' set the narrative by playing with line, length and minds of the bowlers.
This is his seventh IPL hundred and he has now surpassed Chris Gayle as the batter with highest number of tournament tons.
Considering that the Chinnaswamy Stadium is known for batting belters, the final total, though competitive enough, could still be about 10 runs below par.
Kohli and skipper Faf Du Plessis (28) got off to a rollicking start, with a flurry of boundaries against Mohammed Shami (1/39 in 4 overs) and the already distraught Yash Dayal in the powerplay.
They were dispatched for as many as nine boundaries which prompted Hardik Pandya to quickly press his main weapon, Rashid Khan (1/24 in 4 overs), into action to stem the flow of runs.
After conceding 62 runs in six powerplay overs, Rashid and his 'left-arm mirror image' Noor Ahmed (2/39 in 4 overs) put the brakes on the scoring.
Noor dismissed du Plessis while he tried to hit him inside in a freakish manner. The edge hit Wriddhiman Saha's pads and lobbed up for Rahul Tewatia to complete an easy catch.
Glenn Maxwell started off well but Rashid bowled one that was fast and full and just broke back enough to breach the defence of the batter as RCB suddenly found themselves in a rut.
It became worse when Noor dragged Mahipal Lomror with one that turned the other way and Saha completed a leg-side stumping with the finesse that is associated with him for years now.
Michael Bracewell (26), however, took some pressure off Kohli at the other end with Mohit Sharma's slower balls not working well on this occasion.
In his first three overs, he was hit for seven fours and it was Shami who got Bracewell before he could inflict more damage and Dayal had something finally going for him when Dinesh Karthik's woeful season got worse.
But Kohli continued to fight.

Congress Leader's "Tea-Pakora" Lesson For AAP Over Delhi Postings Row
Congress leader and former Union minister Ajay Maken on Sunday said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should follow the "Sheila Dikshit model" of engaging with officers respectfully, holding dialogues with them rather than "mistreating" them, and persuading them to work for the city's advancement.
He also said Mr Kejriwal's past actions of summoning officers and allegedly using harsh words against them are only contributing to the City's distress.
Mr Maken's advice came as the Delhi government is engaged in a battle with the Centre over the control of the city's bureaucracy.
Sharing his own experiences as a minister in the Sheila Dikshit government in Delhi during the BJP-led NDA regime at the centre in early 2000s, Mr Maken said they worked with the bureaucracy to get things done in Delhi's interest.
"I hope the current Chief Minister takes note of this journey and learns from it. Engage with officers respectfully, hold dialogues, and persuade them for Delhi's advancement. They will certainly align with your vision if it's sincere.
"Your past actions - summoning officers at ungodly hours, resorting to mistreatment and harsh words - are not constructive. It's crucial to recognize that such behavior only contributes to the city's distress," Mr Maken said on Twitter.
Sharing on Twitter and Facebook a story titled "A Day with Sheila Ji: Reflecting Amidst Kejriwal's Current Power Chaos", Mr Maken said in the early 2000s a historic shift was underway in Delhi when he was serving as the transport, power, and tourism minister under the late Sheila Dikshit.
The Congress leader said the Delhi government was spearheading a series of initiatives including transitioning public transport to CNG, launching the Metro and reforming the power department.
In the middle of this, then transport commissioner Sindhushree Khullar was replaced. "Fired up, we decided to meet the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. I remember her (Sheila Dikshit's) strategic advice. She told me, 'be as forceful as possible, argue for the interest of Delhi. As I deal with the LG daily, you can be the forceful, I will be the supportive referee,' she directed," Mr Maken said.
"Despite our passionate appeal, the LG was unwavering. 'I have my orders. I can't reverse this, he responded firmly...
"Unfortunately, by evening, the decision stood firm. My frustration prompted a proposal for a press conference to expose this politically driven obstruction. Sheila Ji, however, had a different strategy.
"With a gentle wave of her fingers, she advised, 'No, no, no… Don't tell anyone about our failed attempt. Officers shouldn't know that we tried and couldn't succeed. If they find out, they might stop taking us seriously'. Her wisdom was profound. She continued, 'Call the new officer. Tell him the CM is delighted with his appointment. Explain the importance of CNG conversion, and invite him for tea and pakoras. These officers are with no one. Tackle them skillfully'," Mr Maken said.
The former minister said the turn of events was remarkable as the new officer understood the gravity of the situation and "we stood united against various lobbies and earned accolades from the Supreme Court and even the US Government".
He said he could say with pride, "We became the first city globally to fully convert its public transport system to CNG." AICC general secretary also said, "Truly a wonderful story. This is governance through quiet persuasion and not governance through headlines." "Reflecting on those years, I firmly believe, 'Sheila Dikshit Ji's government's first six years were the most productive phase. She fought not for power, but for the betterment of Delhi. Power privatization, CNG conversion, Metro launch, construction of flyovers, hospitals, schools - they all happened because she fought tirelessly for Delhi," Mr Maken said.
"Her lessons of leadership and diplomacy continue to guide me. She taught me to tackle obstacles skillfully, to serve with a clear focus on the city's welfare. To offer tea and pakoras when needed, and to stand firm when required. That's Sheila Ji's legacy, a guide to serving public interest above all else'," the Congress leader said.
